CAMPBELL, Calif., Dec. 16, 2015 – The Society for Information Display (SID) will host its 53rd International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition, known internationally as Display Week 2016, at San Francisco’s Moscone Center from Sunday, May 22, to Friday, May 27, 2016. This annual event serves as an opportunity to bring together the brightest minds in the display industry, providing insight into the new display technologies in development, as well as affording a sneak peek at new products that will be hitting the shelves within the next few years.
Sri Peruvemba, head of marketing for SID, noted that many of the products consumers are clamoring for this holiday season feature new display technologies, or advancements in existing applications. “Smart watches and other wearables such as fitness bands continue to be hot items for monitoring people’s health and fitness goals, while wearable displays for virtual and augmented reality environments are on the cusp of being truly ready for broad market availability,” said Peruvemba. “Another growing trend is UHD/4K technology, which we’re seeing not only in large-screen TVs, but is also being adapted for tablets and other smaller-screen devices. In addition, curved displays are turning up in TVs, smartphones and vehicle dashboards, enhancing the user’s overall experience.” Peruvemba highlighted that e-writers and quantum dot-based displays are also key topics this coming year—and he was also quick to point that many of these display technologies were introduced at Display Week, the world’s longest-running conference of its kind.
The four-day Symposium features hundreds of leading display industry papers from around the world in multiple technical sessions. It includes a plenary keynote session, presentations in parallel sessions, a poster session organized around selected topics, and author interview sessions with demo models each afternoon. Also included in the Symposium are Sunday short courses and Monday seminars.
The three-day Exhibition is the premier showcase for global information display companies and researchers to unveil cutting-edge developments in display technology. Each year, more than 250 exhibitors share and demonstrate their latest work in the space, providing an inside glimpse into the work that’s being done to yield coming technologies and trends. It also serves as a prime networking venue for leading OEMs worldwide.
Special topics on tap for Display Week 2016 include augmented and virtual reality; digital-signage display solutions; lighting; thin-film transistors (TFTs) and display circuits on plastic substrates; vehicle displays and user interface technology; and wearable displays. More information on the keynotes and full program agenda will be made available in late January.
